In this short video Tom explains the difference between our Starlink Rental kits.
Nomad Rentals is a registered business based in NW Calgary. We believe the overall rental experience is just as important as the price; benefits such as long pickup and drop off hours, nationwide shipping, high end carry cases, securely held deposits and flexible rental terms are important to us. The Gen 2 & Gen 3 roam kits are Starlink hardware designed to be used when static. They have a separate router and require a 120v power supply. They can be setup on the ground, the back of a truck or on a trailer/ building. We typically recommend these kits for most applications that require higher data throughput like streaming film / video whilst RV camping and for businesses broadcasting live media and fixed field facilities where lots of users might be connected.
The Alpha and Mini kits are more compact units that can be mounted onto vehicles for both static and in motion use. They use a 12v supply greatly reducing the power demands. As a result of the slim design of these units, we can also ship them for much less cost. We typically recommend these units for customers that are making long roadtrips or businesses that are frequently moving between locations and need to remain connected at all times.
Much like any equipment rental service we need to take a deposit to protect ourselves from theft or abuse of equipment. If everything is returned on time and without damage your deposit will be returned within 2 – 5 working days to the original card used for payment. Full rental T&Cs can be viewed here.
Think of Starlink as the same as your home or work internet connection, it is fast enough for streaming TV shows, films, music, online gaming and working remotely. We rent the systems to lots of different customers, from RV users and travellers, to oil & gas, survey and film production businesses. For higher bandwidth lower latency performance typically required from some business use cases like media, we can activate high performance subscriptions for your rental period.
We recommend downloading the Starlink app before you leave so you can diagnose any issues. Links: iOS & Android. The placement of the dish is very important, it requires a clear view of the sky with no nearby obstructions like trees or a trailer. The app has a couple of features that can be helpful. First check the statistics menu for up time and any faults. Secondly, we recommend trying the obstacle check function that uses your phone camera if you are still having connection issues.
Once you connect to the wifi network the starlink system creates, the app allows you to diagnose issues, stow the dish and check of obstructions or network status. You will not be able to modify some system options or the subscription type as each system is linked to our account. You do not need to setup an account to use the tools on the app.
Yes, we can deliver and setup systems at your location. We charge $190 per hour for install & setup labor, and $0.75 per km driven to the setup location.
No there is no data limit and no costs on top of the rental price. Starlink does have a fair use policy that is applied to all systems, so if you left the system downloading huge files for days and days the speed may be reduced. If you think you will be using the system very heavily, please ask us about adding a small priority data option to your rental.
Jackery is a reputable US company that builds compact power storage products. We offer the compact 500 & 800 Explorer units as a perfect match to Starlink kits (around 20 - 30 hours of continuous use on one charge) and personal device charging. The included solar panel can be used to continuously recharge the unit.
